What does Trip Cancellation coverage protect?
Trip Cancellation reimburses you for prepaid, non‑refundable travel expenses if you must cancel your trip before departure due to certain unforeseen events.
These can include deposits or payments for things like:
Flights
Lodging
Travel arrangements
Other prepaid trip costs
Reimbursement is available up to the maximum benefit amount in the plan.
What events qualify for Trip Cancellation?
Trip cancellation may be covered if your trip must be cancelled because of:
Death
Your death
A family member’s death
A traveling companion’s death
Illness or Injury
Coverage may apply if:
You, a family member, or a traveling companion become sick or injured before the trip
A physician examines the condition
A doctor confirms the condition prevents travel
Are travel disruptions covered?
Yes. Certain unexpected travel disruptions may qualify, including:
An unannounced airline strike that stops travel for 12+ hours
Severe weather that causes flight cancellations or delays for 12+ hours
What if something happens to my home before the trip?
You may be covered if your primary residence becomes uninhabitable due to:
Natural disaster
Burglary
Vandalism
Are legal obligations covered?
Yes. Cancellation may be covered if you must:
Serve on a jury
Respond to a subpoena
Appear as a witness in court (if you are not a party to the case)
Are quarantine or hijacking situations covered?
Coverage may apply if you or your traveling companion are:
Quarantined
Hijacked while traveling
What about terrorism concerns?
Trip cancellation may apply if:
A terrorist incident occurs within 30 days before your trip
The incident occurs in a city on your trip itinerary

Trip Interruption helps if your trip has already started and you must:
Return home early
Join your trip late
Temporarily leave and rejoin your trip

Unused prepaid travel costs

Fees required to return home or rejoin the trip
What events qualify for Trip Interruption?
Covered reasons include:
Death
If you, a family member, or a traveling companion dies during the trip.
Illness or Injury
Coverage may apply if a doctor confirms the condition prevents continuing the trip.
Travel Disruptions
Including:
Airline strikes stopping travel for 12+ hours
Severe weather disrupting transportation
What if my home becomes uninhabitable during the trip?
Coverage may apply if your home is damaged by:
Natural disaster
Burglary
Vandalism
and becomes uninhabitable while you are traveling.
What if a terrorist incident occurs during my trip?
Trip interruption coverage may apply if a terrorist incident occurs:
In a city on your itinerary
During your trip
And no alternative itinerary is provided
Is there a limit to reimbursement?
Yes. Payments will not exceed:
The amount you prepaid for the trip, or
The maximum benefit amount listed in your policy
whichever is lower.
How quickly do I need to cancel?
If you need to cancel your trip, you must notify the travel supplier within 72 hours of the event causing the cancellation, unless circumstances prevent immediate reporting.
What if my roommate cancels but I still travel?
If a person sharing your accommodations cancels for a covered reason, the plan may reimburse you for the additional single‑occupancy cost.
Does this coverage duplicate other benefits?
No. These benefits do not duplicate other coverage provided under the policy.
